Signs That May Point to the Existence of God

Signs That May Point to the Existence of God

We have to ask ourselves: can anything truly prove the presence of God? Science cannot test or demonstrate the existence of God while believers do not agree on what kind of evidence is meaningful.

Nevertheless, in all eras, humans have been fascinated by certain mysteries. Some reside in the structure of the universe; some are related to consciousness, morality, beauty, or personal experience.

All such observations do not prove anything one way or another. However, to those who are willing to look for spiritual meanings, reality appears stranger and more meaningful than it seems.

1. The Universe Seems Remarkably Fine-Tuned

It’s the set of physical constants and conditions necessary for the existence of matter, stars, planets, and eventually life. It would be incompatible with the existence of complex forms of life if certain fundamental parameters were different.

Scientists suggest several explanations, while religious thinkers leave room for the interpretation of these parameters as something that is designed. Being well-designed does not mean God made the universe.

However, the question that remains relevant is why reality possesses such a set of parameters and what/who created them. For religious people, it seems to be less about coincidence and more about purpose.

2. Something Exists Instead Of Nothing

The question that was raised by philosophers many centuries ago sounds quite simple: why is there anything at all?

Even if cosmology explains the processes that happened in the ancient universe, some philosophers claim that the question about the existence of reality in the first place still remains.

The religious view this as proof that there must be some sort of being, God, perhaps, that creates existence in the end. However, the religious view is rather mysterious, as it raises many more questions than it gives answers.

However, the idea of reality is still captivating in its entirety. Those who are spiritually awake assume that all elements of the universe are proof of some deeper purpose of existence.

3. Consciousness Remains Deeply Mysterious

Though the brain is just a set of cells and processes, somehow humans are capable of experiencing different emotions, memories, sensations, and complex thoughts.

Neuroscience has shown that there is a correlation between brain processes and consciousness, and scientists claim that consciousness is just a phenomenon that may be explained in the future.

On the contrary, many religious traditions define consciousness as a part of the divine element or soul.

4. Humans Keep Searching For The Divine

From ancient times till today, human beings have always sought gods, spirits, sacred meanings, and something in life beyond life itself.

Looking at the reasons behind the emergence of religion, sociologists and psychologists will always mention the need for social ties, detecting patterns, and the need for interpretation of the unknown.

However, some believers in God testify to deeper feelings and a sixth sense. It is possible that humanity seeks God because it has some knowledge of something outside itself.

5. Mystical Experiences Can Feel More Real Than Ordinary Life

People from different backgrounds have spoken of unusual experiences that involve extraordinary love, divine spirit, unity, light, or an instant realization of something greater than life itself.

Psychology and neuroscience can examine the mechanics of unusual experiences, but explaining the meaning of those experiences is much more complicated. A brain state linked to mystical experience does not help determine the real or imaginary nature of the experience.

It is true that extraordinary moments are capable of changing people’s lives. Nevertheless, personal experience cannot serve as heavy proof, even if it is intense enough to convince many that the experience was real.

6. Near-Death Experiences Raise Uncomfortable Questions

Some people who were in the near-death state reported tunnels, incredible light, dead people, life review, or extraordinary peace.

There have been numerous scientific interpretations of the phenomenon, saying that it is not proof of consciousness surviving the body of a dead person. Still, some reports are extremely powerful personally.

The many accounts reinstate one ancient theory: maybe actual death is not the end of the experience.

7. The Human Sense Of Morality Is Strange

A large part of people has the concept of what is right or wrong. There is a theory for the existence of morality and for the reasons why humans possess morals, but the philosophers are still trying to figure it out.

Some say that God helps us be and stay moral, while others say that there is no need for God for morality.

8. Mathematics Somehow Describes Reality

The statements that people say about mathematics are amazing: it can explain how the universe behaves. Mathematics helps people calculate planetary movements, electromagnetic phenomena, quantum events, etc.

Even though people do not need God to make the calculations using mathematics, spiritual believers have a question about why nature is so mathematical.

They often wonder what makes the processes in human brains relate to the processes in nature and what the source of it all is.

9. Meaningful Coincidences Sometimes Feel Impossible To Ignore

Some people think about someone just before that person calls them, or there is a phrase that one needs to hear, and it is said just at the right moment.

Spiritual people often think of coincidences as divine messages. Even though it is not proof, the coincidence is really amazing for some people.

10. Beauty Seems Unnecessary Yet Everywhere

A sunset does not have to be beautiful in order for it to take place. Music does not need to touch someone’s heart in order to exist.

Nevertheless, humanity encounters belleza everywhere: in nature, in math, in pictures, and everywhere else. Sometimes, religious thinkers mention beauty as a way of seeing the divine.

Beauty may not be related to any proof of the divine, but many believers would agree that it is impossible to say that a universe that produces such wonders is meaningless.
