8 Ways to Hear the Voice of the Holy Spirit

8 Ways to Hear the Voice of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is there to guide our choices. The issue is that we often struggle to hear it.

There are so many voices competing for our attention; recognizing the right one might start to feel impossible.

But there is a way to make it easier to hear this voice. It takes a willing heart, and it can be built upon as any other skill!

Here are 8 practical ways to feel closer to the Holy Spirit!

1. Quiet the Noise in Your Life

It’s hard to hear the Holy Spirit when you’re surrounded with an endless stream of information.

You have deadlines and group chats, and naturally, constant entertainment that hoards your attention. The voice of the Holy Spirit is quiet.

It requires intention and focus. You need to want to hear it.

So, make sure to make some space in your life. Leave your phone in the other room and sit somewhere peaceful with your Bible on hand.

For most people, all it takes is a few unhurried minutes throughout the day to allow this communion to become a habit.

You might be surprised how much clearer everything feels when you choose to just be there and receive His voice.

Mornings and nights tend to be the ideal time for most people since that’s when we have peace.

2. Take Your Decisions to God First

Whenever there’s a decision to make, we all have the reflex to reach out to friends and family, and get everyone’s opinion.

We search Reddit for similar experiences, looking for advice literally everywhere except from God.

Allowing yourself to hear the 聖霊 is a beautiful way of finding ガイダンス.

You can do it by reading the Bible, or simply praying over your situation.

Praying has an interesting effect on our psychology by making us feel seen by God.

Sometimes, you forget that He’s omnipresent, but when you pray, you’re present with Him.

The knowledge that He is listening and looking guides your choices so they stay on the right track.

3. Follow the Signs He Sends You

God repeats Himself for our sake constantly, and He does it in パターン!

We call these patterns angel numbers or ancestral guidance, though they all come from the same source.

When the same idea keeps coming to you, or you keep seeing a certain number everywhere you turn, it’s worth paying attention.

It might be the Holy Spirit talking, and that’s something you’ll want to hear.

Look to Scripture too; God often confirms His direction through verses and circumstances that seem to point to the same direction.

When Scripture, people, and events start harmonizing, it’s not a random noise.

4. Listen to Your Feelings

Sometimes, the Spirit doesn’t speak to us through words at all. It comes as a feeling or intuition you can’t explain.

It might also be a strange kind of peace that doesn’t match your situation.

That peace can be His way of confirming that you’re on the right track, and it’s important that you hear it.

Other times, you might feel unreasonably uncomfortable with something, and it’s also important that you hear this.

Slow down and pray through it.

There is always room for uncertainty, and even exciting choices can feel scary when you don’t think them through.

Give the Holy Spirit your 忍耐, and it will reward you.

5. Consult Scripture

Although we should believe our strongest instincts, it’s important to know that not all that we feel comes from God.

After all, human instinct can stir you toward doing some awful things.

Before you decide whether to hear that voice in your head, consult Scripture.

Does it line up with what God has すでに said about love, honesty, purity, and wisdom?

If the direction you’re considering clashes with the Word, it’s not God’s answer no matter how convincing it seems.

The Holy Spirit doesn’t contradict the Bible, so to truly be prepared for its voice, revisit the Bible できる限りいつでも。

Knowing the Word by heart helps you stay open for its influence.

6. Hear Its Voice in Ordinary Moments

Because God is so great, sometimes, we expect him to show up in dramatic ways. However, He is with us through each one of our ordinary days.

You trick yourself by ignoring small signs, waiting for some big revelation.

In fact, the voice of the Holy Spirit can be heard in small coincidences, such as a meaningful conversation that you had without planning for it.

These moments can feel random or annoying, and they might be exactly what you needed from Him.

They could plant the exact idea that you needed!

When you wonder why He wants you to do something, pray and ask. You won’t always find a clear answer, but in time, you’ll start to understand more.

7. Say Yes to Small Nudges

You try to hear the Holy Spirit so you could respond.

The ideas and thoughts it brings you can seem too small to matter, but once you know they’re from God, don’t turn away.

He might nudge you to help someone, to change your plans, apologize, or choose generosity when looking away seems easier.

A person who acts on these small messages learns to recognize the voice more clearly.

If you’re not willing to follow the quiet nudges, how can you expect bigger ones to move you?

Besides, these small acts often change someone’s entire day. A small kindness takes you seconds to do, but its results echo for days.

8. Keep a Record

For many people, recording instances when they felt spoken to by the Holy Spirit genuinely help.

You might feel like you’ve heard its message randomly, while going about your day, or during a sermon.

And, luckily, you don’t have to struggle to memorize each one. Take a moment to record it in your notes app, and move on.

This can help you spot patterns that you might have otherwise missed.

When you go back to these records, you’ll see prayers that were answered and directions that finally start to make sense.

Keeping a record lets you prove to yourself that the Holy Spirit has never stopped speaking.
