Part of it is still privately owned and used by the Eltz family today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The current caretaker is Karl Graf von und zu Eltz, whose family lineage goes back to the original medieval owners.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The family works to preserve the castle while also allowing visitors to explore its history. Maintaining such an ancient building is extremely expensive and requires constant care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Restoration work has been carried out many times to protect the castle from the weather and aging stone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, these repairs are done carefully so the castle keeps its original appearance.
