There are many reasons why someone can be attracted to or not attracted to someone; it is not just química. There are small habitual acts, attitudes, or moments that can totally change the way a person looks at a potential partner.
Each person has their own preferences, but there are some types of behavior that many self-respecting women won’t overlook. These are called “icks”; (most of the time) they are related to respect and maturity rather than appearance.
Below are 10 behaviors that will cause a confident woman to lose interest in you, regardless of how strong the initial connection was to her.
1. Being Rude To People Who Can’t Benefit You
How a person treats other people outside of a relationship is often very telling of how they see people they can’t benefit from.
If a person is rude and dismissive towards a server, cashier, cleaner, phone customer service representative, or anyone who is providing a service, this lets a woman know what kind of person they are.
This type of poor treatment shows that the person’s kindness is predicated upon status and/or the potential to benefit themselves.
2. Never Taking Responsibility
Everyone makes mistakes; however, if you are always blaming others for your problems, it can be very draining on those around you. If you always have an excuse for your problems, you never grow as a person.
A self-confident, respectful woman looks for honesty more than perfection. ‘I made a mistake’ is a sentence that is often more respected than an elaborate story of an excuse.
Accountability helps build trust with others, as it demonstrates emotional maturity.
3. Making Everything A Competition
Being in a relationship is not about competing against your partner in any area. Continually trying to be smarter, better, more accomplished, or always winning the last word will quickly become exhausting.
A good partner will praise their joint accomplishments instead of turning every discussion into a competition. Women with self-respect often prioritize teamwork over conflict. Being confident does not mean that you have to try to prove your superiority every day.
If a partner feels that they need to win every disagreement or beat every achievement from their partner, honest communication is lost in unnecessary competition, and their own fragile ego becomes their only concern.
4. Laughing At Other People’s Feelings
Enquanto humor is appropriate in certain settings, it is usually not appropriate to make fun of someone’s feelings.
Sarcasm may seem harmless when addressing issues; however, it often leads to a lack of communication. Breaking down barriers through compassionate listening is also an attribute of emotional intelligence.
Women who respect themselves want partners who take them seriously when the conversation is important. Being able to be emotionally vulnerable with your partner without fear of ridicule is essential to developing long-term trust and emotional security.
5. Living For Other People’s Approval
If you are constantly seeking outside confirmation in your choices, you will find it difficult to become confident in yourself.
Changing your mind just to impress your friends, going along with every trend that is in the world without a thought of having your own opinion, or worrying about what everyone else thinks about you, can sometimes be a turn-off to some women.
Women with self-respect tend to respect a person who is themselves more than a person who is known as popular. They prefer to be around a person who can think for themselves, while always being respectful of others.
A strong identity usually plays a bigger part in creating attraction than always trying to become what other people want you to be.
6. Always Being On The Phone
The worst part of any situation, when you’re trying to talk to someone, is competing with a screen. If you check your phone while having a conversation, that’s totally fine.
If you’re scrolling through your phone while talking to someone, that completely shows the level of attention you’re giving to them. The next best thing, after showing interest in a person, is giving them a form of respect.
A woman who values herself will know when a person is mentally out of the conversation but still there physically. These small actions matter a lot more than your large romantic acts of kindness or a large amount of money spent while on a date.
7. Speaking Badly About Everyone
People who are always talking badly about their friends, co-workers, former partners, or family members usually cause others to feel uncomfortable in their presence.
While having the occasional negative comment is perfectly fine, never-ending negativity becomes very draining. A woman with self-respect would want to know what that person would be saying about her when she is not present.
Being kind to someone doesn’t mean you can’t also be honest, but whenever possible, it is better to speak respectfully and truthfully.
8. Expecting Effort Without Giving Any
If she does all of the planning for dates, always starts the conversation, always makes the first apology, and always compromises, then eventually the relationship is out of balance.
A strong woman recognizes when the effort is no longer mutual. She does not expect perfection in her relationship; however, she does expect that both partners will continue to have respect for each other and put forth an equal level of investment.
9. Making Promises That Never Happen
Talking about plans can be very exciting, but the only way that people create trust is for there to be a reflection of those words in action.
When someone makes a promise regarding a trip, date, or their own personal changes, or makes an even greater commitment someday but never comes through on those promises, it diminishes the value that they create.
Women with self-respect pay a greater amount of attention to what others do than to what others say. Reliability develops emotional security for another individual because reliability demonstrates to the other person that the words have value.
10. Making Her Feel Smaller Instead Of Stronger
Being in any relationship with an individual where there is constant criticism, devaluing achievements, or non-verbal comments that cause an individual to lose their confidence is a dealbreaker.
A healthy relationship should stimulate a person’s growth by connecting and maintaining success while encouraging them in difficult times. Women with self-respect recognize that love should never cause either individual to decrease in size to build another individual’s ego.
The right relationship should empower both individuals and leave them feeling more empowered, appreciated, and confident than when they began the relationship.
Whenever there is any type of behavior present in a relationship that does not create an empowering experience, it will surely create a high level of “ick” very quickly.
Born and raised in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ever since I was a little girl, my imagination knew no bounds. I remember vividly how I’d scribble down short stories, each page bursting with adventures and characters conjured up from the whimsy of my mind. These stories weren’t just for me; they were my way of connecting with my friends, offering them a slice of my fantasy world during our playtimes. The joy and excitement on their faces as we dived into my fictional realms motivated me to keep writing. This early passion for storytelling naturally evolved into my pursuit of writing, turning a childhood hobby into a fulfilling career.
