This question might sound a bit bizarre, some would even say it’s disrespectful, but a surprisingly large number of believers wonder about it.
After all, Jesus Christ was human as much as He was divine, so it’s natural that we’re curious about His mundane human experiences.
We know that He felt joy, sorrow, compassion, pain, so is it possible that He also felt romantic love?
1. Jesus Was Human
Jesus lived a human life, with all emotions and experiences that come with it. Now, the Bible doesn’t go into mundane details about His everyday life.
So, if we can’t be certain what kind of food He liked or whether He ever got bored, we can’t be certain that He was never attracted to someone, can we?
As a human, He would have experienced grief, love, joy, hunger, exhaustion…
If we believe He felt all these things, then it’s not so crazy to believe that He might have also experienced romantic affection.
O human side of Jesus is often overlooked, but it’s just as important, and that’s exactly what makes Him uniquely relatable.
2. Scripture Doesn’t Reveal Details
The scripture was written to tell us about Christ’s missão divina; His miracles, parables, His death and resurrection.
It’s a story of our salvation, so his disciples and later scribes never concerned themselves with speaking of His personal life.
The times we’re talking about here were quite different. Books and paper were pricey, and people only wrote down the things that truly mattered.
The Bible can be an overwhelming read as it is; imagine if it contained even more details!
So, the lack of information about Jesus’s everyday experiences isn’t necessarily a sign that they were secret or forbidden.
It’s simply that the authors wanted to highlight His divine purpose.
Still, we’re allowed to be curious about His human moments, as the human side of Him is what makes Him so familiar to us.
3. Could He Have Had a Romantic Relationship?
It’s possible that Jesus, as a human, might have experienced romantic feelings, but it’s also clear that His life was devoted to His mission.
Many people find it hard to imagine that He’d have a romantic relationship, since He was so fully committed to sacrificing Himself for humanity.
This is why we tend to focus on the love He had for us, so we wouldn’t miss the depth of His commitment.
Christ’s love is seen as pure and selfless, aimed at allowing us to experience God’s love for the world.
So, even though we can’t come to a definitive answer to whether He loved romantically or not, we can all agree that His greatest love was for His people.
4. Christ’s Love for His Church
Jesus’s lover, so to speak, was always His church.
The Bible describes Him as the bridegroom and the church as His bride, highlighting a faithful, unbreakable love.
This is more than a metaphor; it’s the core of His relationship with us.
His love for His followers is patient, sacrificial, unwavering. It’s a amor divino that’s eternal.
So, it’s probable that the kind of love He had for us is beyond anything we could experience in the secular world.
5. His Love Is a Model for Us
Jesus’s love for humanity is pure and unconditional.

His example encourages us to love each other selflessly across all aspects of life.

While our curiosity is understandable, at the end of the day, we don’t need to know whether Jesus had lovers. It doesn’t make much difference in the grand scheme of things.
What’s important is His ultimate love for humanity.
His healing, love, death, and resurrection contain all the love that should concern us.
The only personal relationship of His that matters is the one He has with us.
His love for humanity is the most intimate and genuine love we can ever know.
