Not narcissists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They introduce a <strong>sense of ownership<\/strong> into the relationship since, to them, the child is merely an extension of themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They punish independence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a child tries to have their own style or have <strong>personal boundaries<\/strong>, the parent loses it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Any sign of individuality can trigger rage, silent treatment, guilt, etc. Whatever works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This way, the child learns that being themselves at home is dangerous.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They give in to the parent&rsquo;s wishes until they&rsquo;re old enough to leave.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Either way, not having the right to their own identity affects them well into adulthood.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5.
