Things Humans Aren’t Supposed to Be Able to Do: Can You?

Things Humans Aren’t Supposed to Be Able to Do: Can You?

The human body has its limitations. But some people seem to have the ability to achieve things that defy the norm.

Some weird skills have easy explanations based on heredity, anatomy, training, or neurological peculiarities. Others go into an ‘abnormal’ territory, especially when intuition, dreams, meditation, and heightened awareness come into the mix.

Try these yourself and discover how much your body or mind can really do without any practice.

1. Move Your Ears Without Touching Them

Can you move your ears while the rest of your face is rather still? Humans have little muscles around the ears, which are of little use in our lives. Some folks can turn them on by will.

Others can’t figure out how to get them to move at all. Our distant mammalian ancestors used to use their ears more to identify noises, so it seems like a little remnant of our evolutionary history.

2. Get Goosebumps On Demand

Usually, goosebumps are a reflex reaction when you are chilly, scared, emotionally affected, or hearing something very emotionally intense. But a few people say they can purposely cause them without any clear external stimuli.

Researchers have looked into this phenomenon, sometimes called voluntary piloerection. This is uncommon, as goosebumps are normally regulated by the autonomic nervous system rather than voluntary movement.

Some spiritually minded people associate sudden shivers with energy or intuitive experiences, although goosebumps are biologically explainable. Try to do them without thinking of cold or emotional memories. For 99.9% of people, nothing will happen at all.

3. Know You’re Dreaming While You’re Still Asleep

Imagine you are in a dream, and all of a sudden you realize that none of it is real, and you don’t wake up. This is called 清醒梦, and science has proven that it can happen.

Some lucid dreamers can even affect what happens next, change locations, or do things on purpose in the dream. In spiritual traditions, conscious dreaming has sometimes been considered a means of developing awareness beyond ordinary waking experience.

Science does not prove that lucid dreaming exposes something supernatural, but that the feeling can be extraordinary. If you have ever purposefully changed your dream while you were asleep, you have already known this strange state of consciousness.

4. Wake Up Seconds Before Your Alarm

There are people who wake up a few moments before the alarm rings, even if the alarm time varies occasionally. The body’s internal clock can seem strangely accurate, yet it is remarkably smart.

Sleep habits, expectations, light, hormones, and learned timing can all assist the brain in knowing when to expect to wake up. But to open your eyes at 6:59 with your alarm set for 7:00 can seem almost miraculous. What is often meant by spiritual interpretations of especially precise internal timing is increased awareness.

Try setting your alarm a little differently tonight and going to bed without constantly checking the clock beforehand. See whether your internal alarm still manages it somehow.

5. Touch Your Nose With Your Tongue

Many people find this seemingly simple challenge 不可能. Try to reach your tongue up to the tip of your nose without forcing your nose down. Success, even more than knowledge, flexibility, or spiritual talent, depends on facial architecture and tongue length.

Most individuals just can’t get to do it. If you can, then you have uncovered one of those innocuous physical things that make the human body astonishingly variable. Now restrain the impulse to show it to everyone around you.

6. Sense Someone Looking At You

You’re sitting someplace, and then you turn around, and you catch the person gazing at you straight in the eye. Many folks say they had this weird sensation.

Many of the apparent actions can be explained by peripheral vision, minor sounds, reflections, body posture, and coincidence. But the sensation has given rise to spiritual conceptions of awareness and energy for generations.

7. Raise Only One Eyebrow

Raise your right eyebrow without moving your left. Now try the other one. For many people, one feels easy and the other extremely difficult. Independent movement of the eyebrows is voluntary control of the muscles of the face.

Sometimes practice improves this. If you try to switch between eyebrows quickly while keeping the rest of your face stationary, it gets much weirder.

8. Feel Someone’s Mood Before They Speak

Some people enter into a room and may quickly sense tension, sadness, enthusiasm, or discomfort without anyone telling them what happened.

You can read someone’s energy or aura. Another interesting theory comes from psychology: The brain processes subtle social cues like facial expression, posture, voice, distance, and movement very quickly before conscious thinking catches up.

9. Slow Your Body Through Meditation

We cannot just tell our bodies to do something automatically. Several disciplines of meditation and controlled breathing can influence your physiological state, such as breathing rate, stress response, and sometimes heart rate.

Skilled practitioners can learn amazing mastery over their responses to discomfort and stress. These capacities have been studied for centuries in certain spiritual traditions, using breath control as a way to connect body and mind.

10. Think Of Someone Right Before They Contact You

One of the weirdest things in this list has to be when someone just pops into your head, and a second later your phone lights up with their name.

This can occur sometimes due to coincidence, patterns of communication, selective memory, and unconscious predictions. But when the person hasn’t contacted you in months, the timing can seem practically impossible.

Spiritual traditions may refer to these instances as energetic ties, synchronicity, or intuitive connection between people.
