Infusing Magic into Summer: 7 Rituals for Welcoming the Season

People all over the world celebrate June 21st. Everyone has different traditions and rituals they like to perform in order to welcome summer into their lives.

June 21st, also known as summer solstice, marks the start of summer and it’s also the longest day of the year.

It’s also a time that brings joy, happiness, strength and hope.

From Sweden and their Midsommar to the ancient rituals of Bolivia, you can pick and choose in which to participate and even if you want to celebrate it alone, you can!

Many people love their solitude, or they just want to welcome summer in their own way.

Read on to find out how you can celebrate summer on your own!

1. Set Up an Altar!

Setting up an altar is one of the best ways to honor the summer solstice and you can do it however you want.

Pick a spot for it, it can be indoors室外, however the weather permits, but if you decide to go outside, make sure that the altar gets enough sun.

Decorate the altar with colors of the sun, like 黄的, orange, gold绿化. You can even add symbols of the sun, candles and crystals that correspond to the sun’s energy.

In the end, make sure it reflects you and your practice.

2. Enjoy the Sun!

Since solar energies are at their peak on this day, go outside and enjoy the sun’s rays!

Lots of people start their celebration on the night before, so they are able to bask in the sunrise.

If you’re not out celebrating with friends around a bonfire, you can wake up early, brew yourself a tea or coffee and sit outside and enjoy the warm light on your face. 

Let the sun’s energy rush into you while speaking words of gratitude or affirmations.

3. Ground Yourself With Yoga!

With this ritual, you’re both 接地 你自己honoring 太阳 You don’t have to be an experienced yogi to honor the sun with sun salutations. 

Paying your respects with 108 sun salutations is a very popular summer solstice tradition, best done outside.

Plus it will help you ground yourself with all that strong sun energy swirling around you.

4. Do Some Skincare!

The beginning of summer is a great time to 照顾好自己 and let go of everything that doesn’t serve you anymore.

This is a great time to start anew, and restore yourself and your inner and outer light.

Cleanse away the first half of the year with some moon water to balance out the strong energy of the sun.

You can even infuse your creams and toners with some summer herbs if you like.

5. Brew Some Herbs!

Pick out edible flowers and herbs with orange黄的 colors to put in your morning tea. You can even add fruits to your concoction.

Take a couple of your favorites. Personally, I like to add lemon and orange to all my summery brews.

Take your ingredients associated with the sun and let it sit in water in a sunny spot outside.

Let this concoction infuse itself with the sun’s energy and your intentions of joy and light.

6. Light A Fire!

Many cultures celebrate summer by lighting a bonfire, dancing around it until the flames die out and jumping over the extinguished fire.

They use this ritual to make their wishes for the upcoming months or to let go of all things negative.

If you decide to participate in the bonfire ritual, write down all of the things that don’t serve you, crumple it up and let the fire consume it. Imagine yourself breaking free of these negative energies.

If you’re not someone who’s super into bonfires, you can still do this ritual.

Simply light a candle, set your intention for the summer, and blow it out.

7. Let Nature In!

Go out and enjoy the day, take a walk or have a coffee outside in nature. Just take in all the energy.

If you’re unable to leave the house, try bringing nature inside!

Decorate your home with summery flowers and plants, open up your windows and let nature in!

Most importantly, you need to personalize the rituals that resonate with you, your energy, and practice.

Anyone can tell you what you should and shouldn’t do, but you can always pick and choose the rituals and spells you connect to.

Some people might focus on deities and others might focus on the energy of the Earth. 

The key factor here is to align yourself and your practice with the energy of the summer solstice!
