8 Reasons Why Radical Feminism Is Waking Up Again

8 Reasons Why Radical Feminism Is Waking Up Again

Just last year, I was exactly the kind of person who rolled their eyes at modern feminism.

I thought that the third and fourth waves had lost the plot, obsessing over micro-aggression and shampoo prices.

I thought feminism in the West had achieved its goals and was now collapsing in on itself. Turns out, I was dead wrong.

Those radical activists weren’t complaining for the sake of it; they were sounding an alarm I was too privileged to hear.

It’s clear to me now: We might have rights, but if we don’t 保护 them, they will be stripped away.

1. Bodily Autonomy Is Under Attack

The battle of reproductive rights sounds like something that should have been won a century ago, but it’s still ongoing.

We are currently witnessing a coordinated attack on women’s right to decide what happens to their bodies, and it’s happening right here in the West.

We’re not talking about remote, extremely religious villages; this is happening in Europe and the US.

The overturning of Roe v Wade in the US wasn’t an isolated incident. It served as a green light for regressive forces worldwide.

If the state can force you to carry a pregnancy against your will, you’re not free even in your own body.

Radical feminism is waking up because we realize that without being able to govern our own bodies, every other right becomes a polite suggestion.

2. The Patriarchy Is Alive and Well

For years, I treated patriarchy as a word people throw around to excuse their personal failures.

But looking around now, I realize it’s very real. It’s the invisible framework that controls our lives, ensuring that power remains in the hands of powerful men.

It’s why women’s voices are drowned out in boardrooms and why domestic labor is still “women’s work.” Not to mention, it’s also why women’s safety is still an afterthought.

The patriarchy loosened its grip only a little because radical feminists of the past forced it to, and now it’s trying to erase our progress.

The system we live under was designed to keep women subservient.

It’s been in place for so long that it’s sold us this idea about women being naturally passive and obedient.

由于 Jameela Jamil said, “If women were submissive, they would have submitted by now!”

3. The Legal System Continues to Fail Women

We like to believe that the law is neutral, but more often than not, it looks like justice is only blind in mythological stories.

Time and again, the law fails to prevent abuse and exploitation, or secure fair treatment.

Just look at the systemic abuse of young girls in the UK. The law keeps turning away from it, doing everything to help those who are causing them harm.

When perpetrators walk free or receive laughably light sentences for violence against women, the system is clearly telling us that our safety isn’t a priority.

The law is supposed to protect the vulnerable, yet it often does anything but.

Radical feminism is rising because women are tired of a system that treats misogyny as a minor inconvenience.

4. The Rise of Far-Right Extremism

The political landscape is changing so fast; seemingly overnight.

Though the far-left didn’t do women much justice, the far-right is openly attacking the rights our predecessors fought for.

“Conservative” politicians and their supporters are championing traditional values, which just means stripping women of their autonomy财务独立.

From Hungary to Poland, to the deep red states of America, the agenda is clear: erase women’s rights and enforce a rigid gender hierarchy.

The return of these regressive ideologies is proof that the progress we thought was cemented is actually paper-thin.

Feminism isn’t just convenient anymore; it needs to be radical and persistent.

5. The Epidemic of Gender-Based Violence

Violence against women is a global pandemic, yet it’s treated like the status quo.

A certain online network with 62 million visitors in just February puts in perspective just how much danger women are in, even at home.

Random violence does happen in bad parts of town, and we’re all aware enough to be careful in those situations.

We accept that we can’t go for late-night walks alone, and that we can’t go jogging early in the morning when there aren’t enough people around. But not even being able to relax at home?

Radical feminism is waking up because we’re exhausted by the constant hum of threat women live under.

We’ve been hearing “not all men” long enough; and sure, it’s not all of them, but it is 只有 他们。

These aren’t isolated incidents we’re talking about.

6. Industries Continue to Profit From Women’s Bodies

You might think we’ve moved past the era of treating women’s bodies as property, but look a little closer.

The insane beauty standards and the adult content industry are only two examples of systems that earn billions off the backs of women.

We’ve been telling ourselves it’s all empowerment long enough.

Radical feminism challenges that narrative. It argues that true liberation means being valued for 我们的 人性, talents, contribution, brains, not the potential for exploitation.

Women want to reclaim the right to exist without being pretty or marketable.

7. The Language

There’s also an Orwellian trend attempting to erase the reality of women.

Words like “mother,” “woman,” and “girl” are being excluded from legislation and public conversation in favor of vague and inclusive language.

“Birthing person” and “womb carrier” are the insane words used to replace a perfectly simple word we have for a female human.

This isn’t progress.

Radical feminism is returning because women refuse to disappear into some unnamed category to make other people comfortable.

8. The Complacency

And finally, radical feminism is waking up because being mild and reasonable got us here.

Women’s complacency is patriarchy’s best friend.

I also sat back comfortably, thinking the hard work was done for me, and I simply get to enjoy my rights as a woman.

But the rights we enjoy today were won by women who were considered radical and inconvenient in their time.

They didn’t ask for permission; they demanded change

So many women are returning to those roots because we learned that being “reasonable” in an unreasonable world is a losing strategy.
