Food created a sense of <strong>intimacy and devotion<\/strong> between people and their gods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, what did the divine actually eat?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. That golden substance made them fundamentally different from humans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, nectar wasn&rsquo;t just food but an identity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&rsquo;s what made god a god, in a biological sense.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ambrosia was often described as incredibly sweet and fragrant, unlike anything mortals could prepare.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it came to sacrifices, ancient Greeks didn&rsquo;t offer their deities ambrosia but meat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was a practical arrangement, where skin, bones, and the burning fire would be meant for the gods, while the meat could be eaten by the people.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. They were described as <strong>truly hungry<\/strong>, and sometimes even angry when their offerings were late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Priests prepared large portions of food daily, which included <strong>meat, bread, dates, beer, <\/strong>\u548c <strong>wine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These were laid out before the statues of Marduk or Enlil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some myths even describe deities literally smelling the aroma of sacrifices and hovering around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For instance, during great floods, people had no way to prepare offerings, so when they were finally able to feed the deities again, the gods swarmed the food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This reveals something interesting: the divine actually <strong>needed humans<\/strong> to bring them food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&rsquo;s a balanced relationship that influenced temple economies; many resources went toward feeding the deities and the priesthood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Dwarves brewed it from the blood of the beings they killed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Idunn&rsquo;s golden apples<\/strong> are very important because they kept the deities youthful and strong, which is why they were carefully guarded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5.
