Ask any woman if she’s a girl’s girl, and she’ll swear up and down that she is.
Seeing other women as competition? She could never!
Some of us honestly believe this about ourselves, but there are subtle signs that give us away.
So, are you really sure you’re not competing with other women? Put it to the test!
1. Your Compliments Come With a Sting
You know how these compliments go because you’ve probably experienced them on your own skin.
Someone comes up to you with a smile from ear to ear, saying, “You look great, did you lose weight?”
Or, “What a nice dress. How brave of you to wear something so tight!”
In these moments, you’d rather people didn’t say anything. But do you ever find yourself giving other women these crooked compliments?
Because when you see them as competition, you kind of can’t help yourself.
You just want to bring them down a notch, just to improve your day a little!
There’s your hidden sign. If you’re unable to offer a non-bitter compliment to another woman, you’re not an ally.
2. You Size a Woman Up the Moment She Enters a Room
When a new woman walks into the room, does it start a chain reaction for you?
You start scanning her outfit, body, face, vibe; is she a potential competition? Is your date looking her way? What about other men?
You’re not just being observant. You’re checking for clues that she might be a threat.
To be fair, we sometimes look at other women because we love what they’re wearing or find them really beautiful.
There’s a big difference between looking at a woman with admiration and looking to find flaws.
This quick calculation is a sign that you’re deciding a woman is your rival before she’s even had a chance to introduce herself!
3. Her Failures Give You a Strange Sense of Relief
This one’s uncomfortable to admit, so I’ll be the first one to say it. Yes, at one point, I secretly felt good about a friend not doing as well as she did before.
It was nothing major; she simply entered a phase where she stopped putting too much effort into her looks, and she gained a little weight.
She’s gorgeous and captivating, so this short period made me 感觉 slightly better about myself. I’m ashamed of that reaction to this day.
So, this is a clear sign that you see other women as competition.
Even though you did nothing to improve yourself, another woman’s failure promoted you higher on the totem pole.
Each one of us needs to grow individually. Your personal worth should never depend upon how well someone else is doing.
4. You’re Always Able to Minimize Her Success
She got a promotion, she got engaged, her skin cleared, she had a glow up… And alarm bells are going off inside your head!
You start comparing yourself to her, looking for reasons to say she didn’t deserve what she got, or that she simply had it easy.
When other women succeed, you simply can’t find the strength to say, “She worked so hard to get there.”
Oh, no. It’s always that her dad had connections, and her fiancé probably settled for her!
This habit is sneaky because it feels like you’re just being realistic, but it’s actually a 防御机制.
It protects your ego from having to wonder if you’d get the same results if you had only worked harder or made better choices.
5. You Dress Differently When You Know Other Women Will Be There
Maybe you’re meeting your guy friends for drinks when you learn that someone’s girlfriend or cousin will join you.
So, you return to your wardrobe in panic. A T-shirt and leggings were fine when it was just you, but with another woman there, you need to stand out more. More passion, more energy!
In the absence of other women, you don’t feel the need to impress anyone, which proves that you’re trying so hard just to compete.
You don’t dress to express yourself or be comfortable; instead, your fashion choices become a strategy!
There’s no real contest, and you know it, but something leads you to want to outdo other women no matter what.
6. A New Woman in Your Group Makes You Uneasy
The exact same scenario happens when a new woman joins the office or the friend group.
You know it’s silly, but it makes you uneasy, as though multiple women can’t coexist in the same space.
You’re not necessarily unfriendly, but there’s a quiet voice in your head telling you to protect your territory.
This says nothing about the new woman, but it reveals a lot about your insecurity. Secure people feel curious about someone new, never threatened.
If new women consistently trigger this defensiveness in you, it’s time to really work on that.
Another woman being charming, smart, or funny doesn’t erase your value.
7. You Bring Up Her Flaws When Nobody Asked
Someone mentions another woman’s name, and you can’t help but bring up something negative about her.
Like, “I’m sorry, but her clothes are so tacky!”
You typically throw people this bone, waiting for them to join in so you can trash-talk the new girl together!
You might tell yourself that you’re being honest, but you’re actually being really mean.
Your dislike of other women can’t even stay private; instead, you feel the need to turn other people against them.
Interestingly, these behaviors are the most common around men, so it’s clear that 验证 is the true goal.
It’s competitive, envious behavior, and it only serves to expose your own flaws!
8. You Find It Hard to Celebrate Her
Another woman shares exciting news with you, and your stomach turns. You smile and congratulate her, but for some reason, the fact that she’s doing well scares you.
It’s like you view luck and success as limited resources that you need to hoard, but even that’s not the whole story.
You certainly don’t feel like this when a man tells you about his achievements. Then, he’s ambitious and hardworking, and good for him!
Envying other women in these situations reflects dissatisfaction with your own life.
Perhaps you thought you’d have achieved a lot more by a certain age, but you’re still years away from your goal.
While you’re allowed to wish good things were happening for you as well, there’s no need to resent another woman for her success.
9. You Try Harder the Moment Another Woman Gets Some Attention
These situations lead many women to become inauthentic. They see that something works for another woman, so they start larping.
It might be a fashion choice or certain behaviors that earn this woman attention, but those things are her own.
She’s being herself, and it captures attention.
You can be just as captivating, but in your own way.
If a bombshell down the street gets stared at, you might feel tempted to show more cleavage the next time you go out.
However, if that style isn’t natural or comfortable for you, it will show.
Stop competing and just focus on being the best version of yourself.
10. You Only Feel Comfortable Around Girls Who Make You Feel Superior
Did you know there are women who surround themselves exclusively with friends who are less attractive than them?
How do you feel around girls who struggle with skin outbreaks and weight loss?
Do they make you feel more comfortable than your physically attractive friends?
This cheap strategy is meant to elevate your worth by using someone else’s problems. You feel like these women can’t outshine you, so they’re safe.
You’re only feeding your insecurity, and you’re underestimating these girls.
Ask yourself if you would like your friends as much if you thought they were prettier and more successful than you?
